Sexuality Education: Lessons Learned and Future Developments in the WHO European Region (English)

The international conference "Sexuality Education: Lessons Learned and Future Developments in the WHO European Region" was attended by over 180 experts on sexual and reproductive health and sexuality education from more than 30 countries throughout the WHO European Region. It gathered reprensentatives of government ministries, international and national nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), research institutions as well as international and intra-national organizations.

More than 10 years after a first joint conference of the Federal Institute of Public Health (previously BZgA) and WHO Regional Office for Europe on sexuality education in Europe, this conference offered the opportunity to promote evidence-based comprehensive sexuality education as an integral part of health promotion and as a crucial element supporting the healthy development of children and yound people in line with the WHO ´Action plan for sexual and reproductive health: towards achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Europe - leaving no one behind´.

By means of various conference tracks including keynote speeches, interactive plenary discussions and parallel group sessions, the event set frame for an extensive exchange on the trends and the situation of sexuality education in the WHO European Region during the past decade and provided room for reflection on challenges and future strategies related to the implementation and improvement of sexuality education.
